Well, if I were you I would wait for the new Smartpart marker that is coming out in the Spring of 2002. It will either be a redesigned smaller and lighter Shocker or a totally new electronic marker. Rumor is the new marker is being designed to compete directly with an Angel and will sale for half the cost. Ok, now I will answer your orginal question. I play front and mid, which one is better, a Shocker or an Imoluse? First, if you just played front only, I would say get the Impluse and if you just played back only, I would say get the Shocker. However, you also play the middle. So here's your choice dilemma. Let's look at the Impluse first. 1) The vertical feed stock Vision Impluse is about $200 cheaper than the vertical feed Shocker Sports 4x4. The standard Impluse cost about $425 compared to $650 for the standard Shocker. Price advantage Impluse. 3) The Impluse is low pressure just like the Shocker but is open bolt while the Shocker is closed bolt. 4) Impluse is a smaller light-weight marker with a higher ROF than the Shocker. The Impluse has ROF advantage 13 bps to 11 bps for the shocker. 5) The Impluse is very accurate at front to mid range. 6) The Impluse will work on CO2 or HPA, a major plus, but so will the Shocker. Ok, I will discuss the Shocker. 1) The Shocker never breaks paint, you have to upgrade to the Vision option on an Impluse to avoid breaking paint with an Impluse. 2) The Accuracy of a Shocker is deadly at at ranges. The Shocker is a must for a back player. It has a blazing ROF, there is just not a noticable difference betweeen 11 and 13 paintball per second, IMHO. 3) However, the Shocker is heavy and its air consumption effecency is not as good as the Impluse. The Impluse can get about 1400 t0 1500 shots from a 68ci 4500 psi HPA tank while the Shocker will get 1000 to 1200 shots from a 88ci 4500 psi HPA tank. Also, a drop forward is a must on a Shocker because of its size. 4) The shocker is so quite. So, what do I really, thank. Well, I think, you can play front with a Shocker, if you use a long drop forward and a 12" barrel, but the Shocker is heavy. I went from using a Micro Mag Rt to a Shocker, and the weight diffence was an adjustment I had to get use to, I do not notice it at all now. It is not the problem a lot of player try to make it out to be. But, if the extra weight and size does not bother you get the Shocker, it is the better overall marker, IMHO. However, if the size and weight difference of the Shocker bothers you, get the Impluse because you play font/mid and the Impluse excels at those ranges. The Impluse is good reliable marker as well. I use the Shocker because I'm 53 years olds and play back and middle, I can not run as fast as I use to. Anyway, I would wait and check out the new marker from Smartparts, Spring is almost here. I hope this helps you. Later, Wilkie
