bolt timing

when my gun came back yesterday... I shot about 50 balls through it. On at least 5 of those shots, i got a weird sound and that ball didn't shoot out (and I wasn't shooting very fast). I'm guessing the bolt was closing before the ball could drop in (I sure am glad this gun couldn't chop if it wanted to). So I went to smartparts.com and found out how to time it, but I'm scared to do anything. I might screw it up. Has this happend to you guys? and what did you do about it?
