Don't touch the timing just yet. Changing the battery is a good idea. If the battery is good the gun sounds like it could be sarving for air. The operating pressure might not be reading right. If the gauge reads above 200psi the safty burst valve should start to leak. If you don't have a safty valve you should get one. (The solenoid's should have blown running above the 200psi mark.)

My guess is the gauge is off (check to see if it reads the proper PSI)Once the gauge is set the reg. needs to be checked. ie. a visual inspection of the o-rings.
About once a year the gun and reg. needs and over hual. It's common to change the o-rings on gun and reg once a year.

IF it's more than that, check with a tech.
