HRL RAMPS UP FOR SEASON 6 Houston Rookie LeagueSoutheast Texas' Premier 3-man tournament series ramps up to start its 6th season Sunday August 29.
“There is no better place to learn competition paintball and gain experience than the youth division of the HRL.”
--Robert Ross, coach of HRL team, Phoenix Kids.
It’s that time again! The Houston Rookie League (HRL), southeast Texas’ Premier 3-man tournament series, ramps up for its sixth season starting Sunday, August 29 at Tank’s Paintball in Katy, Texas.
Last year a total of 110 teams (44 Youth and 66 Rookie) played over the course of the 8-month tournament series. The 2004-2005 season brings more sponsors, two new venues, great prizes, raffles, appearances by pro-paintball players, new concessions, and an air-ball field at every tournament.
The HRL is pleased to welcome Black Mountain Paintball, an indoor paintball experience in northeast Houston, and Twisted Games of Texas, located in The Woodlands and home to last year’s youth winners, Twisted Fury, as new venues.
The HRL is based on a modified NPPL scoring system with two classifications of players: Rookie and Youth. The two classifications guarantee that Youth teams (ages 15 and under) will play teams with similar skill levels. The Rookie Division allows more experienced, advanced, and older players to compete against each other. All teams that enter the tournament are guaranteed 6 games in the preliminaries with the top 16 teams moving on to the semi-finals.
The HRL is a great way for new players to get together with a few of their friends and enter their first tournament. Robert Ross, 27, coach of HRL team, Phoenix Kids, based out of Beaumont, Texas, firmly believes in the HRL, “You’ll be playing against players your own age and when you screw-up and unknowingly break the rules, the refs will generally explain what happened. You won’t find a more reasonably priced, well run tournament series in Texas.”
Rookie players face tougher competition from new and established teams around Texas. Some teams come from places as far as Louisiana, San Antonio, Killeen, and Beaumont. Two time NPPL Division III winners, Organized Chaos, along with Division II teams EPIC and Houston Hurricanes will once again provide their skills as referees of the HRL.
Zap Paintball, Proto, Smart Parts, Odyssey, Paintball Products, Redz Comfort Gear, Stiffi, Warpig.com, Der-Der, P8nt Magazine, P2P Magazine, Big Man Paintball, F-Series, Paintball Maxx, and Paintball Gear Store are all proud to sponsor the HRL this year.
