NYPS FIRST EVENT RESULTS NYPS
On May 7th, at Paintball Quest in Sodus, NY, the NY Paintball Series (NYPS) kicked off their first event. The first event had 3 airball fields set up for play, including a full-size X ball™ field. Even with a scheduling mistake and a printer not working, Hit the 50 Promotions ran a slick event.
The competition started out with the 3 man and the 5 man prelims. Competition was close and fierce. In the 3 man there were a number of close games and many respected teams. Shortbus from Watertown, NY was the “team to beat” all day, as they dominated in the Prelims. Close on their heels were teams Precision 1 and 2 , Finger Lakes Fury, NY P8nt factory, and up-and-coming team S.U.N.Y Albany. The top 8 teams in the prelims moved on to the semi-finals. The competition didn’t slow down at all there either. Again in the Semi’s Precision 1 and Shortbus were the two teams to beat. Their games were almost perfect, and because of that, they both moved on to the finals with a chance for the prizes. NY Fury, who almost didn’t make finals, came on strong in the Semi’s and had a chance to move on to the finals. The last team to move on won a close one. S.U.N.Y Albany, in their first tournament ever, tied Fingerlakes Fury for the final spot in the finals. The end result was that Fingerlake Fury won the tie breaker. The finals ended with a controversial call between the two hot teams of the day, Precision 1 and Shortbus. The refs had a meeting and had both teams play the last match one more time. Precision 1 beat Shortbus 100-0 for the victory.
In the 5 man division two teams stood apart from the rest, Leftovers from Rochester and Drinking Buddies from the Syracuse area. Leftovers dominated all day, losing only one match. Drinking Buddies were not far behind and will definitely be a contender for a place in all NYPS events. Team Defy had a rough start in the morning but ended the day respectfully in 3rd place. Another team to watch is the S.U.N.Y Albany 5 man team. These guys fought very hard, and it was their first time playing together. They will likely be strong contenders in every NYPS event. Rumor has it that they make take both their 3 man and 5 man teams, and put them together for an X ball™ team. We will just have to wait for the next event.
Now for the X ball™ lite day, games ran super fast and the competition was hot. Nimeta fought hard all day but in the end only scored a few points against both GoodFellas and DeadBox. The games were on fire between GoodFellas and Deadbox. It came down to an overtime game, and Goodfellas won by a point.
On a side note, something that impressed us was that refs were pulling players for ramping guns. Even though there were some tough calls by the refs, they did a really good job. Hit the 50 did a great job in using at least 7 refs per field, and hired refs E-unit did an amazing job. Refereeing is sure to be great with the boys from Albany on the scene.
At the end of the day, I had a chance to catch up with Scott from Hit the 50 Promotions. I asked him one question, “Is there anything that you would like to say to the teams?” Scott kindly responded with these words, “Even though the NYPS had such a rough start with scheduling and printer problems, the players and teams were kind and understanding. We were truly blessed today with a very respectful bunch of teams.” Also Scott mentioned that Hit the 50 had a chance to talk to most of the teams and are making some changes for the next event at GRC in Belfast, NY.
Overall, I had a great day and can’t wait for the next event. There is also a DVD coming out for every NYPS event. Paint Check Productions were on scene all day taking photos and filming. Be sure to reserve your copy soon.
See you guys at the next event,
