PARK NEARS COMPLETION IN FRESNO CA Splats Urban AssaultOne of a kind Paintball Park nears completion. Two and a half year project gets off the ground.
Splats Urban Assault, Inc operators of Splats Paintball Park announced that they are near completion of the park, and released the following statement:
“Were extremely proud to announce that the park is almost completed. Field One is now completed and so is the Staging area. Field Two is half finished and should be completed by next week. It has taken a long time just to get to this point, but this park is a one of kind paintball field – nothing like this has ever been done in Fresno before. This is one the sturdiest paintball fields on the planet. You can’t miss it when you drive by, - you can see how far the construction has come. The phones have been ringing off the hook with questions about when it will be finished “
Splats Paintball Park has been in the making for over two and a half years now. Though the construction has been plagued with many setbacks, it has got most of the heavy lifting out of the way and aside from some welding; all that remains mostly is hanging the netting. There is still some additional signage and another building they expect to build on the site; however owners say that will not keep them from opening to the public.
..
They should be feeling de’ja vu when they open to the public – they’ve already done this once before. In 2005 they opened their doors to the public to play on one field that was only partially complete but had temporary safety netting. It was only 5 weeks before they had to shut down to resume construction – which then got delayed until early this year.
Owners cite that most of the setbacks were related to getting approval from the city as well as re-designing already approved plans to accommodate fire truck and escape egress routes. Other structural changes had to be made because of its proximity to the freeway, resulting in design addendums and re-submittals. Additional funds had to be raised to cover the new changes and addition materials so the project has ebbed and flowed as each step is cautiously checked off the list.
Once completed, the field will be open every weekend for paintball games and tournaments. Paintball is one of the world’s fastest growing extreme sports and has been gaining mainstream popularity with the advent of more
television coverage on ESPN and OLN. Splats Paintball Park will feature two playing fields on a soft grass playing surface, professional referees, shaded staging area, and the ever popular Sup’ Air inflatable bunkers (
barriers players hide behind during game play).
There is no information released on an opening date yet though they do say it will be sometime in February 2006. Announcements will be made to the public as more information becomes available.
