Smart Parts World Paintball Championships to Premiere in October

Fast paced action from the Smart Parts World Paintball Championships will be broadcast by ESPN Networks starting in October, 2006.

Loyalhanna, PA - September 8, 2006 – The Smart Parts World Paintball Championships brought together eight of the world’s top professional paintball teams for a 12 game tournament packed with intense competition. Paintball World Cup founder Jerry Braun helped produce the tournament and said, "The matches were tremendously exciting and exceeded all expectations. We had two blow outs, two comfortable wins, and eight nail biters which included three overtime games."

The tournament was played at the Mohegan Sun Casino and Resort, under the watchful eyes of sixteen television cameras which were all routed into a live production broadcast truck. Through the direction of Emmy Award winning sports television producer Paul Goldberg, each game from the event became a full-length television show for ESPN Networks.

The tournament games will have their broadcast debut on ESPN2, Friday October 6th at 5:00 pm Eastern (2:00 pm Pacific) with a repeat airing at 1:00 am the following Sunday (10:00 pm Pacific, Saturday.) The first show is the opening face-off between the Atlanta Predators and Jacksonville Raiders. Each week new episodes will be aired on Friday and Sunday, from early October through Christmas Eve, allowing eager fans to watch their favorite teams battle their way through the preliminary rounds and on through to the championship finals game.

“We are very excited about seeing this program broadcast,” said Smart Parts president Bill Gardner, “it has been a long road working to get professional paintball to television in a way that will appeal to both the serious paintballer and the general sports fan.”
