PAINTBALL SPORTS AND THE US ARMY
Paintball Sports

Paintball Sports Magazine has just signed a major advertising and promotions agreement with the United States Army. The deal, a year and a half in the works, opens the door for all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces to support the paintball industry. It will also increase Paintball Sports Magazine’s circulation and visibility.

In a related arrangement, the U.S. Army will sponsor the Long Island Big Game, held May 19 – 20, 2007 at Cousins Paintball in New York. The two-day event draws more than 2,000 players, and features tanks, a helicopter, missions, prize giveaways and a large vendor area. Dean DelPrete, Cousins Paintball Owner, announced that a U.S. Army Major will be one of the Big Game Generals. The Army will set up a huge display in the vendor area.

“This is only a start!” said Paintball Sports Magazine CEO Mike Cutino. “The Army spent more than 20 million dollars on NASCAR last year,” he said. “Now it’s paintball’s turn to reach outside our own industry, into the national market.”

Targeting national advertisers outside the paintball industry has been part of Paintball Sports Magazine’s business plan since 2004 when the magazine underwent a complete re-design. PSM also signed Pentax Cameras as an advertiser for 2007 – 2008.

“January is the slowest month for paintball advertising,” Cutino said. “This year, Paintball Sports added 16 pages in January. We are now setting up National Sales offices throughout the United States and teaming up with other extreme sports magazines’ sales forces to add paintball as another selling tool.”

Cutino cites Paintball Sports’ extensive demographic survey, completed at NPPL, PSP and scenario events across the country, as a key selling tool for the national market. “Our advertising and promotions arrangement with the Army is going to open the door for the entire industry,” Cutino said. “The NPPL, PSP and other leagues, not to mention FaceFull, Splat, Action Pursuit Game, Paintball 2Xtremes, Paintball Games International and other media will benefit, as outside companies and the military see paintball’s marketing power.”
