SPPLAT Scenario Grows into Festival

What initially started as a scenario game hosted by the Society of Paintball Players and Teams, centered around television and movie star William Shatner to raise money for charity, has expanded into a full blown paintball festival.

The game itself will be held at Challenge Park Xtreme on August 31st (registration info at SPPLAT.com) with a scenario that pits three teams against one another.  With official licensing from Paramount Pictures, the three teams are the Federation, the Klingons, and the Borg, from the Star Trek storylines.  Shatner will lead the Federation team, assisted by scenario game producers Patric “PacMan” McKinnon an Kerry “Viper” Rosenberry.  Airgun Designs president Tom Kaye will be in charge of the Borg team with long time friend Bud Orr, owner of Worr Games Products by his side.  Rallying the Klingons will be radio and television talk show personality, Mancow.

Since many of the expected attendees of the event will be first time paintballers, Challenge Park Xtreme is putting together a special rental package.  Rental players will get to use a semi-auto with compressed air, and after the game, they get to keep their goggle/mask system.  For those who continue on playing the sport, getting more paintball goggles into the hands of the public is a great move, considering concerns many have over mass merchandised paintguns.

Registration for the scenario game also includes field fees to be able to play at Challenge park Xtreme on the 28th through 30th, making for a half-week of paintball fun.  Friday, world class BMX riders Collin MacKay, Brian Vowell, Koji Kraft and Joe Prisseo will be performing exhibition rides on Challenge Park’s ramp park and dirt track.

CPX is also tying music in on Friday with live performances by Lucky 7, Johnny Letcher, Ten-Minute Vision and John Condron.

A tank battle and pump paintgun tournament will also be pre-scenario game highlight activities.  The pump tournament is planned to have over $10,000 in prizes which is unheard of for a pump-only event.  The prize package includes limited edition gold plated Action Markers pump paintguns signed by William Shatner.

Last minute registration is available, contact Challenge Park Xtreme for details.
