Houston Rookie League HRL Enters 5th Season
Charles 'Sully' Sullivan

The Houston Rookie League (HRL) starts off the beginning of its fifth season, Sunday, September 7th, 2003, in Katy Texas. It is an unlimited, event paint only series, using a modified NPPL 100 point system. This year's HRL will be bigger and better, with more sponsors, more prizes, and more events. It truly is the premiere 3man rookie series in Texas.

The 2003-2004 HRL season will kick off at Tank's Paintball, home to some of the best concept fields in Texas. This season promises to be even greater than past seasons, with the addition of new sponsors, as well as returning sponsors, including Zap Paintball, Smart Parts, Dye, Redz Comfort Gear, Odyssey Paintball, Splat Magazine, F:Series, Big Man Paintball, Paintball Maxx, and Paintball Gear Store. Also look for continued coverage of the HRL at Warpig.com, where you can find tournament coverage from last year's events.

In addition to the new sponsors, this year's season has been made bigger with the addition of 2 more tournaments, upping the number of events from 6 in previous years, to 8. The players of the HRL said they wanted more tournaments, and that's exactly what they will get, with one tournament added to each side of the schedule. The new season will start sooner, and end later!

Another change from last years HRL is removal of the Rookie Senior division, leaving the rookie and youth divisions for players to choose from. The youth division is for player's age 8 to 15 who have not played as a rookie in another event.

Yet another addition to this season's HRL is special appearances by some of paintball's most well known, and best player's in the game. Frank Connell from the Philadelphia Americans (All-Americans) will be making an appearance at Tank's Paintball Saturday, September 6th, 2003. He will be there to teach the basics of paintball and critique your game. This is free to teams registered for the first HRL event. Look for more pro ballers to make an appearance throughout the year!

The registration deadline for events is 5:00pm the Friday before the event. New players are always welcome to HRL, friendly players with a good attitude are the only requirements. For more information check out www.houstonrookieleague.com.
