RoughNeck Feedneck

Ever since the first commercially produced paintball hoppers there has been an issue with “standard” hopper necks not being a truly standard size.  For paintguns with clamping elbows this isn’t such an issue.  For vertical feed paintguns (which have become the norm) the loader is cupped in the feed neck.  If it is too large it simply won’t fit without sanding down the loader neck.  If it’s too small, forget it, it will fall right out.  Even with a proper friction fit, loaders can work their way loose and go AWOL at the worst possible moment – like when running up the tapeline to do someone in the bunker on the 50.

Rough Neck Paintball’s Demonic Strangler high/low rise compression feedtube put a twist on attaching a loader to a paintgun while tackling the feedneck fit issue.  They are available with a variety of thread patterns for installation onto different vertical feed bodies.

The two piece neck design means that they can be installed as a high rise feed neck or by dropping off the bottom section, a low-rise.  The bottom section does double duty.  It is also a Warp Feed adapter, acting as a base on which the plastic right angle powerfeed from an Airgun Designs Warp Feed can be mounted.

That is not their main feature however.  By utilizing a three part system they are a clamping feed-neck that grips onto the loader avoiding the friction fit problems that are all to common with vertical feed paintguns.  An aluminum sleeve with a knurled interior sits in the center of the feedneck with an outer collar that screws down around it.  As the collar is screwed down, it compresses the sleeve, causing it to grip the loader neck.

In a variety of loaders tested, the Roughneck feedneck had no problems getting a solid grip.  The exception was the HALO loader.  This wasn't an issue of grip, but of size.  The HALO feedneck would require sanding down in diameter to fit into the Roughneck feed neck.

How good is the grip?  We put it to the test by suspending a 20 pound toolbox full of tools from a Ricochet AK loader that was held into the Roughneck feedneck.  The feedneck held – no problem.
