The 1997 Great Western Tournament Series Results

This year the NPPL Las Vegas tournament joined forces with the Great Western Tournament Series to hold two tournaments the same weekend in the same location. For the Novice and Amateur 5 man teams in the Great Western, this meant a chance to meet and learn from the Amateur and Pro 10 man teams competing in the NPPL event. While some teams fielded squads in both events, most were not so daring.

Also, adding a bit of fun for the Great Western teams who finished early, Dan Bonbrake (who, along with Russel Maynaard produced the GW event) put on a small stock class tournament providing rental stock markers, and some of the most entertaining games of the weekend. Players who had never played stock, let-alone pump hit the field with 10 round tubes and 12 gram cartridges. In one instance a player from Ground Zero charged his opponent. They each thought they had been eliminated, and didn't realize they were still in the game until they were standing 4 feet apart. This led to their running in a circle pumping madly to get off the first good shot.

What do all these numbers mean?

Listed below are the scores for the Novice and Amateur Divisions. First, the total scores for each team's preliminary round games are listed. The top teams in each division went on to the semi-finals. Also, the top teams not selected in the first batch, regardless of division, went on to the semi-finals as wildcard teams. Then the listings for the semi-finals are listed. The semifinal scores have a first number, indicating the score for that game, and the second number (after the slash) is the total score up to that point. The top 4 teams from the semi-finals went on to the finals to be ranked for placement.
