Back in the day (early and mid 80s) paintball was played usually with goggles only, and the goggles didn't always withstand a paintball hit (often it was $5 shop goggles.)

Just cause folks are doing it (like at the end of the segment when the host pulls his mask off during a paintball game) doesn't mean it's a safe thing to do. I don't think there's been near the commercial research into airsoft safety that has gone into paintball safety, largely because there is a much smaller customer base to support it.
