On the big O rings I would put a thin coat of silicone grease just enough to cover it and put the silicone grease on anything else that moves or you are concerned about needing lubricant. Do this as you put the cannon together so you can get every where.

Get a little grease on your finger and completly coat the o ring with it then wipe the excess grease off with a clean rag.

And this is why becuase anything thinner than that will not necessarily cover everything you want coated if its coming out an oiler. and two it will not last as long as the grease will. Also the grease will make the O ring more resistent to the elements like water too
