I've never actually built a 12 gram powered one, despite eyeing my old 12-gram quick change from time to time, so I've no idea about the ratio's. I think many people have the 12-gram go directly to the valve. I've seen them work and the big problem seems to be that the sprinkler valves won't hold the pressure indefinitely. So if you plug in the 12-gram and leave it open to keep the system powered, you might find yourself firing a load with only 10 or 20 feet of effective range.

The sprinkler valves can usually be found at Home Depot for about $10 or so.
