I was one of the refs at Berlin, and I know that "One Shot" went out of his way to make sure the refs were ready for game on. For me personally I had the rules in hand a month in advance memorizing them to the best of my abilities. I was a requirement for all the refs to take a test on the rules, and pass it. No passing grade, no reffing. I have to give my respect to Battle Creek for demanding such hi standards in reffing.

As a ref I do the best that I can to make sure the game is safe, fair, and fun. I will admit I may not make all my calls with 100% accuracy, but I do the best I possibly can. I apreciate all players who take my calls and respectfully abide by them. Sometimes it may seem as if we are not fully involved in the game, however we are simply focusing on about a hundred different aspects of the game. I would much rather have been playing. It's a lot simpler then, shoot or be shot. Us ref work hard at doing our jobs fairly, and as effectively as possible. Even if we get mistaken as Germans when walking through the compound, and take a couple in the chest at close range. (it stings but one of the job hazards) As long as everyone plays safe and works with us as refs, I have no doubt any game can be great.
