In Reply to: *QUESTION* Make pre-set HP tank to a pre-set LP? posted by L.P.CockerDude on October 12, 2002 at 20:03:10:

: I've got a few HP pre-set tanks but wouldn't mind trying to convert one of them to an LP.( about 450-500psi output) If I understand the dynamics right it's the main spring in the reg that controls the fixed psi output.... right? If that is correct it seems that having a stiffer spring (or using a shim) would lower the output psi, correct? Has anyone done this other than the manufacturers?

To lower the pressure you need a lighter spring. Your regulation happens above the main piston. The stiffer the spring is, the higher pressure is needed to push the piston down to stop the flow of air into the reg. And the opposite goes for the light spring.
Some times you can take a Arbor press and squish the spring several times to weaken it. But this will only get you 75 to 150 psi lighter.
I would just get a reg swap from CrossFire.
What kind of reg do you got?
