: Hey, can someone please tell me what hydrotesting is for and what it does. And, does an anti siphon tank get filled like a regular tabk? Or is some special anti siphon tank filler needed? Thanks, : Tyler Hydrotesting is a check to make sure that a tank is strong enough to be safely used. The tank is placed in a water tank and filled to very high pressure. The tank will bulge slightly, displacing some of the water. The amount of water it pushes out of the tank is measured and compared to set charts for that type of tank. If the tank flexes too much when under pressure, or doesn't flex back properly when the pressure is released the tank is condemned because it is no longer strong enough to be safely used. Fiber wrapped tanks must be hydrotested every 3 or 5 years depending on the particular DOT certification for the tank. Many of the smaller CO2 tanks do not require recertification, but the larger ones do. To check on the requirements for your tank, read the DOT exemption number on the tank, then look it up under the exemptions listed by number at hazmat.dot.gov. See you on the field, -Bill Mills
