It allows the liquid CO2 to expand to gas and is a deterent to getting liquid CO2 into the valve. Compressed air eliminates the need for an expansion chamber and is extremely consistent. For about $80 you can get a 47 3000 pure energy tank and solve all the inherent problems of using CO2. Hope it helps.
