In my experience I'd say about 80% of the tournament players I see use a stepped bore barrel. : I am wondering just how many of you high-end gun users regularly use step-bore ported barrels ( like the Boomstick, ect.)
The benefits seem to be a more consistent velocity from shot to shot and a better tolerence of oversized or out of round paint. The step is also supposed to allow the ball to regain its natural shape before exiting the barrel and hence reduce the "waterballoon" effects of a ball springing out of a control bore. One last benefit is that with a stepped bore you never have the ball pressing into the ports. In some one piece barrels you risk shredding your paint in those ports if the paint is too big.
: If you do use them, what advantages to you precieve in performance over normal ported barrels? In your tournament/high-end rec. experiences what would you estimate the percentage of players using step-bore barrels at?
