Cockers can be confusing for first-time owners. They take some getting used to, if you're going to work on them at all, because their operation is a bit more complex than other paintguns. That said, I've been shooting cockers for about 7 years, and I love them. They shoot great, and because of how many upgrades are available, almost every cocker is unique. It's like a piece of you. I do recommend that if all you want is a paintgun that you can play with and forget about, don't buy a cocker. Plenty of guns in the same price range will perform as well. I recommend cockers to people who like to personalize, upgrade, and work on their own gear. For the sake of the argument though, if "all cockers suck," then why have so many pros been so successful with them? I don't imagine your neighbor will have much of an answer to that. The bottom line is this. They're great guns, but they require a little learning and mechanical aptitude if you're going to do any work on them. With a little patience and motivation, anyone can learn these things. Check out the autococker infosheet at www.paintballravi.com. That's probably the best free resource available, and a good reference to have handy when you start to work on yours.
