you can actually pick up a b2k for about 445-450 online...check out paintballgear.com or paintballgeeks.com so that'll save you some money. A new barrel is a good first upgrade since the stock one ain't all that great, Custom Products are good barrels(45 at paintballbarrels.com), though depending on what generation you get i think they've made the stock barrel pretty good. next thing is a new reg, messiah or gladiator are great, but vigilante is nice too and cheaper(can usually find on ebay). if you don't have an air system for it you'll want to get a nitro setup...adjustable is good and preset will work w/ the newer bushies, but if it's an older version you'll want to get the new reg first. you can find used ones w/ a lot of upgrades and air for around $400-600 if you want to, i know there are a few on ebay and paintballcity.com has a good traders forum, but i understand the want to upgrade it yourself. you can look into getting vapor modifications done to it; check out www.vaporworks.net for that and also Tanks site is the best site out there on bushies/defiants, you have any ?s he'll help you out (www.obdo.net) hope this helps
