Defiant velocity issue

One of my teamates have a Defiant and it will not keep a constant velocity. We adjust the reg and get it shooting 280 and after about 5 to 10 shots it will start bumping up to 325 or so. Any ideas? Also does a Defiant LPR get adjusted the same as a Bushy? Bring it up till it vents and back it off a half turn? We have a tourney this Sunday and I am trying to get it fixxed for him and it is real hard to find a manual or info on the net for Defiants.
