Polishing a Flatline Barrel

Has anybody polished their flatline barrel?
Did it work?

I was under the impression that the curve in the
barrel gave the ball a backspin. Some have
told me that the barrel would not produce any
backspin if the inside of the barrel was not
rough.

What is the census? Polish or not to polish?
