I have had this same problem with my 98 custom not long after I got it. After a bit of swearing and a close inspection, I found that one of the screws on the side of the marker that hold the valve to the side had gone missing, and the other was loose. After replacing the screw, and tightening the other, the problem went away. Hope this helps
