: on paintballsnipersupplies.com they have a barrel extension they say it has lots of ports, it has bla, bla.........in short they say it improves accuracy and distance, now i know paintball is shot at 300fps that distance will alway be similar that is fine (except the flatline) what gets me is they say it will make a stock barrel as accurate as a good aftermarket barrel. well my question is where is the proof? I want some one to show that it cuts the shot pattern in 1/2 at what ever yards.

Some thoughts:

Barrel extensions were popular in the 1980s, before most paintguns had removeable barrels. As soon as aftermarket barrels were available for guns, barrel extensions became so unpopular the manufacturers stopped making them. If they were so effective, why didn't people like them more than the aftermarket barrels?

There are comments on the site about the device not being a silencer/supressor, and asking people not to ask about that. Several years ago, a major barrel manufacturer made a shroud that went over the ported section of their barrel (much like the ones this company makes for ported barrels.) That barrel manufacturer also did not claim that they were making a silencer, they said it was to hide the mist cloud that sometimes forms at a barrel tip in cool weather. The ATF raided their facility, and confiscated all of their stock, claiming that they declared that the items were firearm suppressors or suppressor components (the law gives them total flexibility in claiming what is or is not a supporessor component, or even a tool used to make suppressors.) Last I spoke to the owner of the company was about 3 years after it had happened, even then no charges had been pressed, but he had been threatened with charges and federal prison time if he resumed manufacture of them.

Knowing what you and I know about the relationship between range and velocity, backspin aside, and what they are claiming about increased range, I am similarly skeptical of their claims of increased accuracy.

See you on the field,
-Bill Mills
