: after reading a couple previous forum discussions about the different size and weights of paintballs an idea occurs to me. If heavier objects fly farther and more accurate why not make bigger and/or heavier paintballs? is .68 caliber really the optimal size and 3 grams optimal weight? or is it just more popular? any info would be helpful. thanks I believe the voluntary ASTM standard is set at 3.2 grams. As for making them bigger, the shift lately toward smaller paint is driven by the fact that if a paint is too small you can still shoot it but if it's too big it breaks and breaks and breaks. Therefore, on the average smaller paint breaks less (everything else equal). The best paint (from a trajectory standpoint) is the smallest that is at the max of 3.2 grams (denser objects have greater momentum and travel farther - the fabled flatter trajectory). Tom
