Back around 1998 there was an online game called Gotcha or something like that. You'd download the game modeule then play online through their server. It was like a cartooned version of paintball, but they had some pretty fun fields, and the paint lobbed through the air and a capture the flag format. Certainly it didn't have "realism" but I don't think you'll ever really catch true excitement of paintball in a computer simulation. The game was free for something like 60-90 days, and it was on a monthly subscription to the game service after that. I don't think they lasted more than 6 months after the subscription service started.
