While scopes have a limited ussage in paintball. (you don't need the zoom since paintball distance is so limited) I think reflex/red dot sites do not. These can be very helpfull in pulling off some very accurate quick shots. And they are good in the woods also. The raised rail it because paintball mask get in the way of having your cheek right up against a stock like on a rifle. So the stock either goes down or you get a raised site rail. Some feeds get in the way and they also need a raised rail to use a site. But I don't think they are mostly useless. But you can also aim by looking down the barrel, and some people try praying. :) : Personally, I think sight rails are for taking peoples money. I've hated all the sight rails I have ever owned. However, some people do like it for general sighting like you said. You can mount a scope on it, but they are mostly useless to put on.
