Externally they are the same, open the battery compartment to tell. It should have a spacer to take up the room of the second 9v, if it's not a 12v. Hope it helps.

: Does it use one or two 9-volt batteries? Single 9V users are 9V, and dual battery units are 12V (typically, unless yours is REALLY old!).
