The egg's cover is fragile, and most dealers have trouible getting replacements. Try contacting VL directly via their web site or by phone and have them ship you a replacement. Find your sales receipt if you bought the egg recently, and it's still on warrantee. When you get the replacement, try sanding the tab that holds the cover closed at the front/top so that it opens and closes withoput putting too much stress on the pivot points. Then tell your son to try not to fall on his hopper:) Good luck, Superannuated
