While it is true that to objects traveling at the same speed should have the same range I think that there are a few other things that could play a hand one being that the range may be the same but due to the stability of the paint inside the ball not just the shell itself spinning could cause the ball to go off course at a earlier velocity. An unstable ball may punch through at the 300 fps stage but what about when the velocity begins to drop. The turbulance in the ball could cause it to go off course effectivly limiting range. The stability of the paint inside the ball may also affect how it maintains that velocity. I'm not saying that an open or closed bolt system is necasarily better I think you have to look further into the design that that but one that causes less turbulance to travel to the ball may work to effectivly increase range. one thing I would like to see the warpig labs do is a test at how velocity changes over different distances in different guns. Ofcourse this is all speculation but its somthing to think about. Think of it this way if you throw a waterballon and a basball at the same speed witch one is going to go further. And also witch one is going to stay on course the best.
