The port, hose, 3-way are a BIG FACTOR TOO!

It takes Volume to move the ram. The theory is the less volume, the faster it can reach the end of stroke at the same pressure. But the smaller the piston, you have to raise the pressure to provide the FORCE necessary to recock the hammer spring. That WILL decrease the time required to get to end of stroke even more. Theroitically.

Consider that the size of the barbs are STILL the same, the flow capacity through the 3 way is unchanged, the barb from the reg is unchanged, and the size of the hoses is unchanged.

IS their any real change in the flow rate just because the volume of the ram is smaller or bigger? The smallest restriction determines the flow rate. The bore of the ram is NOT the smallest hole the air has to flow through is it?

Everyone ASSUMES they are adequate to run at these super rates. I question if they are.

If they aren't, what do you have to do?

Gee, to get more volume through the same sized port in the less amount of time, you have to raise the PRESSURE!

When you raise the pressure to operate the small bore, AND add more pressure to push that volume though the rest of the plumbing quickly, you get enough FORCE and the end of the ram stroke, to slice a ball in half easily.

Well, that kind of discourages one from trying to see how fast it will go. Doesn't it?

Diminishing returns folks........
