That doesn't sound bad to me. that's half a case in 2400psi and 1250 rounds off a 3k fill. And just shy of a case from a 4.5k fill. What size tank are you using?

Why do you think that is gashogish? It's not ultra efficient, but it's pretty good if you ask me. (I'm assuming a 68ci bottle)

To answer your question, yes it could effect efficiency.
