: : Out of curiousity, how close did it's performance match the predictions by the sim?

: Almost exactly,,,,well,,,, kinda.

: I had to change a couple of things from my original design [...]
: I was shooting for 230 fps so I could restrict the valve to get my velocity down. I'm actually hitting 220 fps. I never actually figured what my velocity should be with the smaller chamber and barrel, but my guess is the sim would have hit it very close. Of course, I had to guess at the speed of my valve. I think it must be around .03

So is it safe to say that it was close enough to get a working design on the first try? I gather so... COOL!

BTW, the sim update is coming along well. I've got all the math working, the only thing left is file i/o so that designs can be saved. 'Tis a shame you already built the gun; the new sim includes the modeling of a pilot type valve.

Speaking of, the sim has been showing some pretty amazing behavior for valves. The first is that a well vented (ie, slightly modified) sprinkler valve is opening up MUCH faster than previously though (on the order of 0.01 second, depending on variables). Also of interest is that the unmodified valves NEVER REALLY OPEN! The reservoir bleeds down faster than the uh..whatever they call the upper chamber. The result is they only open about half way and then they slam shut again! Wierd stuff!
