For production work (good molds) use .... Mold release wax.
For rougher, one shot deals, use PVA mold release. Spray a couple coats on with a paint sprayer, let it dry, and you are ready to cast. The stuff I have been using is made by Evercoat
I get it at West Marine, but I don't use much; better deals are out there somewhere.
For REALLY rough molds (plywood and other porus materials) the wax paper, aluminum foil, plastic sheeting method is the the way I know of.

If you are paying more than $3.00 a pound for structural 'glass or $6.00 a pound for finishing cloth, let me know. Resin should come in under $14.00/ gal.

Use a Tyvec suit while grinding glass, it keeps the itchies out better than others.
