What tank are you trying to use? You might need to get a different bottomline that will accept the tank you're using. I kinda had a problem like this with my 'cocker. O, O. Look at your tank where you screw it in. Is the needle sticking up a tiny bit past the surrounding edge? If so then drop an oring into your bottomline THEN screw the tank in really quick.
