you dont want a barrel too long, you dont want one too short, never too wide, never too small, never too much porting for the sake of gas effiency or sqeegability! never too little that its unreasonably loud, porting also seems to rid the ball of turbulence in which it flys through (so says smart parts, which started the ported craze) and never too expensive... i think i read somewhere that on average.. all you need is 7 good inches on a barrel.. after that the ball starts to slow down.. but, and i do say but! the ball also needs to stabalize itself, so those extra inches after the first 7 are a good thing... (depending on the way the gun delivers the gas-fast or slowly-the 7 in may change a little)
compromise... it seems you have to spare a little more gas efficiency to get a ball to come out with as little wobble as possible.. there is a fine line between the length, the amount porting and the bore size that gets your barrel well balanced in respects to the paint you use... my philosiphy is dont go to the extremes too much...
there are so many trends in paintball.. the recent trend i noticed as im sure others have, is the shorter barrel craze.. as well as the "gotta have every bore size possible even if all i shoot is my local field paint" yes the freak is great.. but everyone i know that has one only uses like 4 inserts at max.. but some people may use em all and feel they need more .. as far as i know, nobody makes a paint grenade bore size.. so before you follow the hypes, follow your BRAIN!!
