So true! As decketout said, we should use our brains. But we often blindly accept the manuf.'s claims regarding barrels without any analytical thought . 'Step honed-spirall drilled super porting? Must be good if they can afford to produce such a slick ad.' How many of us have bought a Boomstick etc., on this pretense? Or according to the claims made by the manuf.? Smart Parts for example produce(d) the most blatant pseudo-physics for thier ads. Their "turbulence" garbage comes to mind. Turbulence does not cause inaccuracy , ball spin does, and porting vents the gas behind the ball to avoid unequal flow between the it and the barrel ,(ie in a poor paint/barrel fit). I believe "turbulence" is created by sub- par marketing teams, not by accelerating a paintball.
This brings me to step-bore barrels. Since the ball does not contact the ported section how can friction slow the potential rotation of the ball? It can't. If one deduces this, then logically how can the shiny $200 boomstick we purchased really perform $110 better than our old dye-ported barrels? But such a product makes us look cool at the tournaments. And all the top pros in the slick ads use them, so they must be superior...
