Screw the sear lug up in to the hammer, and remove the velocity adjuster so you can remove the hammer. Then, you can put the hammer or rod in a vice. I'd say put the hammer in a vice with something like a towel around the hammer so you don't nick or scar the surface. With that, a pair of vice grips should help you remove the cocking rod from the hammer.

: Apparently i accidentally tightened the cocking rod on my autococker too much. Now, when i try to remove it, the endpiece just unscrews. I've tried using a wrench on the rod itself, tightening the set screw more, and even locktight but it just keeps coming apart. Any suggestions?
