I use a J&J Ceramic, mostly, but I haven't tried a Lapco.

I have drop-forward, vertical adapter, and male Palmer.
I would recommend buying a cheap screw-in nitro tank before spending money on regulators. It's something that can be transferred easily to your next gun when you move up.

You could always try running remote; makes the gun shorter, and gives the CO2 plenty of time to expand.
