I think I've figured out a way to put a much shorter bolt into a spyder, thus making it possible to chop off about half of the top tube. Some of the milling would be fairly risky until it is mastered, but Im sure on today's CNC machines it would be child's play. This idea was sparked by seeing an Impulse with about 1/2 of the top tube removed, and I thought, hey, why not on a spyder? I will list the steps here:
(NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURIES, DEATHS, OR LOSSES OCCURING FROM ATTEMPTING THIS WITHOUT PROFESSIONAL HELP.)
Needless to say, all internal components including valves and pins should be removed prior to doing this work.
1. Enlongate the slot for the bolt/striker connection pin. I would reccomend professional helf for this one. You would need to get inside the body with some type of slotting tool about 3/8" wide.
2. Test fit the bolt and striker, make sure that they fit through the enlongated slot.
3. Cut off top tube slowly (perhaps 5mm at a time) until you are satisfied with the length of the tube.
4. Move the striker/bolt connection pin hole (on the striker) forward as far as possible (perhaps 1"?) without losing structural ridgidity.
5. Cut off your bolt. So that the back of it is about 1/4-5/16" behind the hole on the striker when both parts are fully forward.

Actually, I'll take pictures when I try this, then send them into Mr. Mills, maybe he'll put them up on the website. Along with the procedure. As for you other tinkerer's out there, how does this sound so far, any changes I should make? Thanks,
