: Does anyone know how to build a silencer for a pumpgun. I have a PMI Trracer it is accurate but loud as heck. It is almost pointless having an accurate gun when everytime I shoot I give away my position. Help if you can.
: Thanks,

To "appear" to satisfy the ATF rules, whatever you make must not be able to be retro fit to a conventional firearm. Keep in mind that it will be the ATF that makes that determination not you. It's is an intentionally vague law!

If you make this and ONLY uses this at a rec game or scenario, and NEVER have it mounted when transporting you gear to the field, most likely you will never have a problem. They are not interested in busting law abiding people that play paintball. If you were to do something stupid like shoot the neighbors cat or at street signs etc, then I am SURE they would view your devise as an illegal silencer and bust you for it! I would never sell it or give it away either.

Here is an idea. Get an extra barrel. Have it ported for the last 3 inches. Buy a tube of latex caulk in a plastic tube. Cut the end of the tip, empty the tube of it's contents. Carefully with a stick, push backwards through the tip and push the plunger all the way back out. Clean it all in water good. Cut the tube to about 4 inches. Cut it square. You want the tip end. Take your barrel put it over the tip, and trace a circle around the barrel on the center of the tip end and do the same on the plunger. Carefully cut these out so they friction fit tightly over the barrel.

This will leave you with a light plastic tube that you can slip over the barrel AT THE FIELD when you want a little extra shealth. Just slip the plunger on. Then a cut to fit Scotch bright (plastic type) pad to role around the barrel. Slide the tube over that and then push the barrel out the hole you cut. Push the plunger in the other end. That's it. It will only work on your barrel. It has no inside tube to break paint in or make it usable on a real firearm. When off your marker it's just a useless tube. It all comes apart for easy cleaning. You still have a perfectly good ported barrel to use the rest of the time.

Remember, if you make this only for paintball and use it only for paintball in a safe and responsible way, you PROBABLY will never have a problem. But like I said above, the law is vague, and is done so that THEY can make the call as to whether this device is ok or not. But that is because they want to bust bad guys, so don't be one!
