If you pump the gun correctly, the anti-double cocking mechanism prevents you from cocking the gun again until you release the sear by firing.

And yes, I have that problem all the time and it is very annoying. I usually wait until I have my target lined up and then just "double tap" him. That way I get a round off and back in the chamber.

Of course, shootdown can be a problem w/ rapid shots, but that's another story.
