'99 up cockers rarely go out of time unless it is a self-inflicted cause. Basic maintenance is the same as any Paintball gun. Wipe it down when your done. Put some oil in the ASA, and remove the barrel, fire a bunch of times and put the barrel back on.
The voodoo of timing really isn't that bad if you have any mechanical inclination. It will drive you nuts for awhile until you truely understand how things interact. You can read all you want, but not truely get it until you get your hands in there. After that it takes 5-15 minutes for a coarse tune (depending on if you are doing top to bottom) and about 30 seconds for a tweak.
Cockers don't have any blowback to help agitate the hopper. You will frequently have ball feed problems and learn the cocker shake (frequently shake the gun to get the balls to actually drop down the feed neck) unless you get an agitated hopper.
Good paint will do more for your effectiveness than any hyped up mod. Now some mods have their place, but good paint has more of an effect on accuracy than any other thing. BTW the stock barrel is good, just loud.

: : i'm thinking of getting a cocker but am worried about the maintenance. My friend has had one for about a year and said he knows enough about thenm to do basic maintenance but hasnt had to time it yet. Is it possible for a cocker to go that long without needing to be timed? I've heard that many of the times when somehting goes wrong it is self inflicted by messing with it. How much maintenance is there and what is it? Any help would be appreciated. Also, what else might a new cocker owner or someone thinking of getting one might need to know? Thanks
