how do i install my free hinge?

please help , i just bought a 2002 autococker vertical and it came with a free hinge. how do
i install it. i heard that you have to switch 2 of the hoses on the 3-way, is this true? also ,is
the hinge really worth installing , will it help
my markers performance since im comfertable with it? will it effect the timing or performance? by the way , what is timing and how do i time my ac?
