Im wondering if you should time it a little less tight on the back end of the pump. Make it longer, either in the 4way or in the back stroke of the hinge. The reason I can think of would be that the sear needs a little time to snap back up after the lug passes over it on the way to recocking.
It may be timed so tightly that the hammer clears (you can cock it manually) but slides past before the sear can be reset high enough to catch the lug firmly.
As for the angled timing rod, I'd put the frame back on the 03 body and see if it's angled as well, if not then the mini must be slightly different tolerances. Likewise you can compare the mini's frame on the 03 body and see what the differences are.
