What springs to use with the AKA tornado valve?

I've read about people using mixed combos with this valve. I thought you were suposed to use the lightests springs, no? Why should you mix the springs? Did the spring combo method come to discovery recently, or was it always suposed to be like that. What happens if you don't use that exact combo? What do you loose/gain?
