Most guys making the first jump up to tourney grade markers usually buy an Autococker. Nothing wrong with that because they've been one of the top markers for friggin' years!! The nightmare starts when guys that know they're ol' Spyders (& other blowbacks) start "tinkering" with the Cocker. It's a whole different animal...... x-way, rams, lpr's & hoses are just some of the new stuff you'll see on the outside. Then there's the lug, valve springs & trigger stops & springs. (the latter relates to 45 grips). And if you get an upgraded one with and adjustable lpr & reg........ oh my!!!
The reason you've heard they're tempermental or require a lot of repair is because people don't take the time to get to know them! First thing.... foget everything you know about your Spyder, the Cocker ain't no spydie!!! Don't spend big bux$$$ on a pre-made upgraded Cocker, Do-It-Yourself!! That will allow you to become familiar with your new marker & the way it works. At thye same time your building the marker the way YOU want it! That's kinda the thing that sets Cockers & Cocker owners apart from others..... You'll rarely see 2 Cockers that are the same, it's a personal statement :)
I would suggest picking up a '00-02 stock Cocker for about 200-250 & adding upgrades..... You'll definetly want to put a MADDMAN ROCKET lp valve in there too.... aka tornado performance at 1/2 the price!!!!!!
