My own answer to this is to build the chassis from the ground up. I figure that if the PAV is built like a go-kart, the rear engine thing is not a problem. Just drop in a standard go-kart racing engine.

On the other hand, the Soviet Union prefered front engine armored cars. They have a rather unique look and did not incorporate turrets.
